Carmichael, CA Kitchen & Bath Remodeling Services

Whatever your Carmichael, CA home needs, we handle it in-house. Kitchen remodeling, bathroom remodeling, countertop fabrication and installation, cabinet refacing and custom cabinets. Here is what each one looks like in homes in Carmichael.

Kitchen Remodeling

Carmichael kitchen remodeling almost always starts with layout. Lincoln Oaks ranch kitchens from the 1950s are compact and closed off. Wilhaggin del Dayo homes have the square footage but lose it to soffits and walls. Our in-house crew handles everything from design to demo and final install.

Remodeling Project Ideas for Your Carmichael Home

Tub-to-Shower Conversion

Carmichael homes built before 1990 almost always pair a tub and shower in the hall bathroom. If nobody in the house takes baths, that tub is storing shampoo and forcing a step-over every morning.

Converting to a walk-in shower opens the room and gives you space for a bench, a proper niche and a real drying area.

The work covers demo of the tub and surround, new waterproofing, a repositioned drain and tile or solid-surface walls. Most conversions finish inside two weeks.

Cast-iron tubs are common in Lincoln Oaks and Carmichael Colony homes from the 1950s. They come out heavy, so our crews plan removal before demo day rather than improvising around it.

Keep one tub in the house if resale matters. Buyers with young children still look for it.

Countertop Replacement

Countertops give you the largest visual change for the smallest disruption in a Carmichael kitchen.

The trigger is usually one of two things. Laminate seams start lifting, or tile grout stains past the point where cleaning helps. Many homes here are still on surfaces installed decades ago.

We fabricate kitchen countertops in our own shop. You approve seam placement rather than finding out where it landed on install day.

Quartz handles daily use with no sealing. Granite and natural stone give you patterns no other home repeats, and need periodic sealing. Silestone sits in the quartz category with a wider color range.

Plan for the sink, faucet and backsplash at the same time. Pulling a slab forces all three decisions.

Opening Up a Closed-Plan Kitchen

Carmichael kitchens from the 1950s through the 1970s were built as separate rooms. Lincoln Oaks homes in particular follow the postwar ranch template: a compact kitchen walled off from the living space, with a doorway rather than an opening.

Removing that wall changes the house more than any other project. Whether it carries load determines cost, and our project manager checks framing during design rather than after demo starts.

Opening the wall usually leads to a peninsula or island, which moves the sink, dishwasher and cooktop. Plumbing and electrical rerouting follow. All of it runs through our own team.

Homes from this era often have solid cabinet boxes worth keeping. Pairing wall removal with refacing lands well below a full tear-out.

Cabinet Refacing or Full Replacement

Carmichael cabinet refacing keeps your boxes and replaces doors, drawer fronts and the visible veneer. Full replacement removes everything.

Box condition decides it, not age. Homes from the 1950s through the 1980s frequently have solid hardwood or plywood boxes worth keeping. Particleboard boxes with water damage under the sink rarely survive.

Layout decides the rest. If your current cabinet positions work, reface. If you want a taller upper run, a different island or a pantry where a wall stands now, replacement makes more sense.

Refacing typically finishes in under a week with your kitchen mostly usable. Replacement runs longer.

Cabinet painting is a third option. Lower cost, works when the door style still suits you, less durable than a factory finish.

Aging-in-Place Bathroom Updates

Carmichael has one of the longest average ownership tenures in the region. People bought here decades ago and stayed. That changes what a bathroom needs to do over time.

This work does not have to look clinical. A curbless shower reads as a design choice. Blocking behind the tile lets grab bars go in now or later without opening walls twice. A comfort-height vanity and a taller toilet reduce daily strain.

Lever handles replace knobs. Lighting gets brighter at the mirror and inside the shower. Non-slip tile handles wet floors without the institutional look.

ADA-compliant work follows specific clearance and reach dimensions. Our designers know which apply to a private residence versus a code requirement, and build to whichever standard you want.

Pantry and Custom Storage

Carmichael homes were built before anyone owned a stand mixer, an air fryer and a coffee setup taking three feet of counter.

Lincoln Oaks kitchens from the 1950s have a shallow broom closet and little else. Wilhaggin del Dayo homes have more room but the same problem: deep corner base cabinets that swallow appliances, and uppers stopping at a soffit instead of the ceiling.

Custom cabinets fix it. Pull-out pantry towers replace deep shelving. Appliance garages keep the counter clear. Drawer bases hold pots better than doors and shelves ever did.

Bathroom cabinets work the same way. A linen tower sized to your wall beats a freestanding cabinet crowding the doorway.

A single built-in pantry costs a fraction of a full remodel and often solves the original complaint.

FAQs

Do I need a permit to remodel a kitchen or bathroom in Carmichael?

Carmichael is unincorporated Sacramento County, so permits go through the county rather than a city building department. Swapping cabinets, countertops or fixtures in their existing locations usually does not require one. Moving plumbing, altering electrical or removing a wall does.

We handle applications and inspections as part of the project. Homes closer to the American River may fall within additional review areas depending on the parcel, which is worth confirming early rather than mid-project.

My house was built in the 1950s. Will you find problems once demo starts?

Sometimes, and we plan for it. Postwar Carmichael homes were built with materials and methods that have aged in predictable ways. Original galvanized supply lines corrode from the inside. Cast-iron drain lines eventually fail. Electrical panels sized for a 1955 household rarely handle a modern kitchen.

None of that is a reason to avoid remodeling. It is a reason to budget honestly. Our designers flag likely conditions during the planning phase, so a discovery behind the wall becomes a line item you already discussed rather than a surprise that stops the job.

Can you match the character of an older Carmichael home?

Yes, and it is usually the better approach. Lincoln Oaks homes have stone chimneys, overhanging roofs and shaded porches that give the neighborhood its look. Carmichael Colony holds the community’s original townsite architecture. Dropping a generic contemporary kitchen into either one fights the house instead of working with it.

Our shop builds cabinetry to your dimensions, which means door styles, panel details and proportions can follow what the house already has. Shaker and inset doors suit most postwar Carmichael homes better than a flat slab front.

What is the difference between refacing and repainting my cabinets?

Refacing replaces the doors, drawer fronts and the visible veneer on the boxes. You get a new door style, new hardware and a factory finish, with the existing boxes staying in place. Most refacing projects finish in under a week.

Repainting keeps your existing doors and changes only the color. It costs less and works well when the door style still suits you. The tradeoff is durability. A painted finish applied on site will not hold up as long as a factory finish, particularly around the sink and the range.

If the doors are solid wood in a style you like, paint. If the style is the problem, reface.
