Elk Grove built out in bursts. Laguna and Laguna West filled in through the 1990s. Stonelake and Camden Passage came later. Cabinet quality, framing and plumbing all shift depending on which wave your street belongs to. Our designers start with what your Elk Grove home already has and build something beautiful.
Most Elk Grove kitchen remodels start with a layout problem. Homes from the 1990s have the square footage but wall the kitchen off from the family room. Newer builds are open already and need better storage and surfaces instead. Our in-house crew handles everything from design, demo through final install.
Bathrooms are our most popular Elk Grove service. Some homeowners want a primary suite that finally feels finished. Some want the unused corner tub gone and a real shower in its place. Some are staying put and need the room to work for the next twenty years.
Kitchen cabinet boxes usually outlast their doors. In Elk Grove homes from the 1990s, the boxes are often solid. Only the fronts look dated. Cabinet refacing replaces the doors, drawer fronts and veneer. Another options is repainting – it costs less the cabinet door style still suits you.
Stock cabinetry assumes a standard wall. Production floor plans rarely give you one. Custom work solves the corners, the soffits and the pantry space no standard cabinetry size fits. Our own shop builds it, measured to your unique needs.
Countertop replacement is the fastest visible change in a kitchen. It also forces three other decisions: sink, faucet and backsplash. We fabricate in our own shop, so seam placement and schedule stay under our control. Choose from a wide variety of materials including Quartz, granite, natural stone and Silestone.
For nearly 50 years, more than 30,000 Sacramento-area homeowners have trusted Kitchen Mart to transform their kitchens and bathrooms. Now it’s your turn.

A remodel in a 1980s Streng contemporary is a different job than one in a 1990s Laguna West home. Different framing, different plumbing, different cabinet conditions, different budgets. These neighborhood profiles cover what we find in Elk Grove homes by area and era, from Valley Hi and Williamson Ranch to Laguna West and more!
Laguna West was planned in the early 1990s as a walkable alternative to standard subdivision layout, with homes set close to the street and a lake at its center. Front porches, alley-loaded garages and narrow lots define the original sections.
Anchored by the Valley Hi Country Club golf course, built in 1961 by architect William Francis Bell. Midcentury ranch homes with bay windows and gabled roofs mix with later two-story traditional builds from the 1980s through early 2000s.
A rare intact enclave of Contemporary-style homes built 1977–1988 by Streng Bros. Homes and architect Carter Sparks, named for the family orchard once on the site. Original swing-up garage doors and exteriors remain largely unaltered.
Elk Grove is core territory for us. Our crews work here weekly, and our Sacramento showroom is a short drive up Highway 99 when you want to talk to our experts, see materials up close and just get insipired!

Elk Grove homes from the 1990s were built with a wall between the kitchen and the family room. It was the standard of the era. It is also the single biggest reason those kitchens feel smaller than they measure.
Removing that wall changes the house more than any other project. Whether it carries load determines cost, and our project manager checks the framing during design rather than after demo starts.
Opening the wall usually leads to a peninsula or island, which moves the sink, dishwasher and cooktop. Plumbing and electrical rerouting follow. All of it runs through our own team, so nobody is waiting on a subcontractor’s calendar.
Homes from this era often have solid cabinet boxes worth keeping. Pairing a wall removal with refacing lands well below the cost of a full tear-out and gets you most of the visual change.
Most Elk Grove primary bathrooms built before 2000 include a corner soaking tub. Homeowners fill them once, maybe twice, then spend the next twenty years cleaning around them.
Converting that space to a walk-in shower reclaims real square footage. You gain room for a bench, a proper niche and a drying area that does not require stepping over a tub wall.
The work covers demo, new waterproofing, a repositioned drain and tile or solid-surface walls. Most conversions finish inside two weeks.
Keep a tub somewhere in the house if resale matters to you. Buyers with young children still look for one, and a secondary bathroom handles that job fine.
Refacing keeps your cabinet boxes and replaces doors, drawer fronts and the visible veneer. Full replacement removes everything.
Box condition decides it. Elk Grove homes from the 1990s and 2000s frequently have solid plywood boxes worth keeping. Particleboard boxes with water damage under the sink rarely survive.
Layout decides the rest. If your current cabinet positions work, reface. If you want a taller upper run, a different island or a pantry where a wall stands now, replacement makes more sense.
Refacing typically finishes in under a week with your kitchen mostly usable. Replacement runs longer and costs more.
Cabinet painting is a third route. Lower cost, works when the door style still suits you, less durable than a factory finish.
Countertops are the most common single-item project we run in Elk Grove, and they rarely stay a single item.
Replacing a slab means pulling the sink, which means deciding on a new one. The faucet follows. Then the backsplash, because the old one was cut to the old slab height. Budget for all four from the start rather than discovering them mid-project.
We fabricate in our own shop. You approve seam placement rather than finding out where it landed on install day.
Quartz handles daily use with no sealing. Granite and natural stone give you patterns no other home repeats, and need periodic sealing. Silestone sits in the quartz category with a wider color range.
Elk Grove homes are not short on square footage. The storage is just badly organized.
A 1990s pantry closet with wire shelving holds less than a purpose-built cabinet half its width. Deep corner base cabinets swallow small appliances that never come back out. Uppers run to a soffit instead of the ceiling, which loses a full shelf across the room.
Our cabinet shop builds to your dimensions, so awkward spaces become useful ones. Pull-out pantry towers replace deep shelving. Appliance garages keep the counter clear. Drawer bases hold pots better than doors and shelves ever did.
Bathroom storage works the same way. A linen tower sized to your wall beats a freestanding cabinet crowding the doorway.
A single built-in pantry costs a fraction of a full remodel and often solves the complaint that started the conversation.
Elk Grove has a large share of homeowners who bought in the 1990s and never left. Twenty-five years in the same house changes what you need from a bathroom.
Aging-in-place work does not have to look clinical. A curbless shower reads as a design choice. Blocking behind the tile lets grab bars go in now or later without opening walls twice. A comfort-height vanity and a taller toilet reduce daily strain.
Lever handles replace knobs. Lighting gets brighter at the mirror and inside the shower. Non-slip tile handles wet floors without the institutional look.
ADA-compliant work follows specific clearance and reach dimensions. Our designers know which apply to a private residence versus a code requirement, and build to whichever standard you want.
