Care & Maintenance

DuPont Corian® Maintenance Tips

DuPont Corian® is a completely acrylic surface designed and created for a lifetime of easy care. Just follow a few simple guidelines listed here to help you keep your Corian surfaces looking lustrous and fresh.

Corian® Routine Care

Routine care and daily maintenance of DuPont Corian® countertops is easy. Use the following procedures as a guide to everyday care for your Corian® surfaces.

The standard finish on Kitchen Mart’s Corian® countertops is matte. All Corian® sinks come with a matte finish. The easiest way to care for your matte finish is to use soapy water or an ammonia-based cleaner. In your Corian® sink, feel free to use a light abrasive cleanser, such as Comet, Ajax, or Soft Scrub, and a blue Scotch-Brite pad. To keep a lustrous sheen to your countertops, regular use of a polisher such as Countertop Magic is recommended.

Removing Stains & Fixing Scratches & Burns

Corian® is non-porous, and so stains do not penetrate the surface. Minor blemishes such as scratches, general or chemical stains, can be maintained on-site with a light abrasive cleanser and a blue Scotch-Brite pad, available at most hardware and grocery stores.

Avoid using the green Scotch-Brite pads, as they are much more abrasive.  Use a little water, mild abrasive like Soft Scrub, and the Scotch-Brite pad in a circular motion, with light pressure.  Rinse with water and dry with a towel. Then it is recommended that you apply Countertop Magic to restore the shine.

Brightening Your Sink

If you are noticing that your Corian® sink is not as white as it once was, you can easily fix this with simple household bleach. It is recommended that you mix ½ cup of bleach with warm water to each sink bowl and let the solution sit for a minimum half an hour. After this, simply drain the solution, and your sink will be restored to its original color.

Preventing Heat & Other Damage

Although Corian® is heat-resistant, you should always use a hot pad or a trivet with rubber feet to protect it. Hot pans, as well as some heat-generating appliances like frying pans or electric skillets, can damage the surface if a hot pad or trivet is not used.

Corian® can be easily repaired if it is damaged.  However, be sure to follow these guidelines to prevent any permanent damage to your Corian®:

  • Avoid exposing Corian® to strong chemicals, such as paint removers, oven cleaners, nail polish remover, etc.  If contact occurs, flush with water.
  • Do not cut directly on your Corian®; always use a cutting board of some type. Cutting on your countertop will dull your knives and put light scratches in the surface.
